Clinch Resources produces metallurgical coal in West Virginia, a critical ingredient in blast-furnace steelmaking. With existing mines, permits, processing infrastructure and rail access already in place, Clinch is moving from redevelopment into production and targeting a significant increase in output.

Existing infrastructure supports a faster production ramp
Clinch already has an operating wash plant, rail-connected loadout and permitted mining areas in place, meaning it is restarting and expanding existing Appalachian assets rather than building an entirely new complex. First coal from Lanes Branch was produced in May 2026.
Multiple mines provide a clear route to higher output
Surface production is already underway, with Mine 8 and Mine 3 forming the next stages of the underground ramp. Management is targeting 200,000 clean tons per month once the surface and underground operations are running together.
Exposure to scarce, higher-value coal products
Clinch expects part of ARI's production to have specialty characteristics such as ultra-low ash and low sulphur, while its 38.8% stake in JJ Resources provides exposure to genuine mid-volatile metallurgical coal, a particularly sought-after grade for steelmakers.

Ramp-up to 2 million tons is the hard part
Reaching the 2 million ton target by 2027 is not guaranteed. Volumes may fall short of plan, costs may run higher than expected, or both, and any of those slips would push the target back.
Coal price swings move the fair value by a third
Fair value is closely tied to the coking coal benchmark price. When that benchmark price rises or falls, our estimate of fair value moves in the same direction by roughly a third as much.
One county, one wash plant, and one railway
Everything depends on a single set of facilities in one West Virginia county: one wash plant to clean the coal, one rail loadout to load it onto trains, and one railway to carry it away. There is no second site to fall back on.
